During the day its about 90degrees plus humidity and during the night its about 90degrees plus humidity so we decided that it would be a good investment.
Lisa found a store in the capital that was selling them so while Lisa and I got our hair done the boys went to purchase our air conditioner.
So as I said nothing here is easy, after they got to the store they discovered that the ad was misleading. These air conditioners were USED. Granted a good price but still USED and had been refurbished.
Refurbished generally means hit with a hammer and inspected by a 3 year old and deemed ready for resale!
So after 2 hours of running around and 45 minutes at the actual store Gralyn decided that the USED air conditioner was the best deal.
This is where all things become possible here for next to nothing. If you were in Toronto and needed to send something to Windsor you would need to rent a UHaul and pay through the nose. But here the local guaguas do this all the time.
We got a hold of the driver...who by the way is the driver the brothers use every time to go to the convention...which meant he knows us and we know him.
After explaining we had things for the ride home he said 'no hay problema'
We had 2 suitcases and 2 large boxes.
Which were put nicely on there own seats right behind the driver so he could take care of them.
And this only cost us $7.50
This is where things in this country surprise you and weird things are possible.
I can't imagine what people would say if someone tried to do this in Toronto!!
Here is our next adventure of 'nothing is easy'
So these past two weeks has been the Pioneer Service School. Chris is one of the 2 instructors and Lisa was invited as a student....so again we lost our friends...this time for only 2 weeks.
Just before they leave Chris drops the bomb...our congregation has been assigned to do a lunch for the class. Not such a big deal right???!!! WRONG!!
So, the task: is to make a meal and deliver it by 11:30am and get there by bus. Oh, and the menu is Rice with Pork Ribs, cooked vegetables and white beans (its beans in a sauce) and these foods obviously are best served HOT...right?!
This is where all things are possible here.
The sisters got up very early to cook the food, enough for 35 people. They called a driver, he is the driver that we always use to get around locally. He is a relative of one of our sisters and is very helpful to us.
So, he allowed us to hire him for most of the day at a discount!! He didn't charge us full price and he gave us the whole guagua. Which meant he wasn't working during the hours he was with us. It was very kind of him.
The man's nickname is FEO, which in English sounds alright however in Spanish it means UGLY....And everyone and I mean everyone calls him this name. Culture is very different...let me tell you!!
So here we are on our way to the Kingdom Hall in Barahona ...an hour and 25 minutes away!
Just before we served lunch we took a picture of the willing volunteers.
This is the Kingdom Hall in Barahona.
And Chris....
This is the guagua....doesn't look very safe but its one of the nicer ones if you can believe it!
We are on our way home after lunch.
Thats Feo in the front right he waited in Barahona for us until we were ready to go home.
All things are possible in Dominican and with Jehovah's help!!
