On Saturday we did the last of the territory in Duverge! which meant we could then begin the small campos on Sunday.
The last area in Duverge was actually the neighborhood of Chris and Lisa. It still is very hard to get used to...at one time you are standing at a door that is very normal, a regular apartment....and in the next minute you are talking to cows!!
Here is the group strolling through the back roads to get to the territory. Everyday we are discovering new back roads and areas that we never saw last year. This town has grown, but yet its still the same....
So far Gralyn has not got a chivo (goat). He really wanted to get one here but now I think he realizes how much work they actually are. If you want to be responsible and feed your chivo you need to have a farm! Because here, people put a triangle made of wood around their necks and let them freely wander the streets and eat whatever they can find. So for now we get to see many chivos during the day and this has so far satisfied Gralyn.
It is fun to see them as you travel around town, the babies are so cute and they jump around and are very playful. But I am really glad that we haven't called one of them our own.
This is a typical home that is in the outskirts of town. Its made from wood, and different pieces of metal. Not so good for the hurricane season. Which we are starting into right now. Its been raining a lot here in Duverge. More than usual. Its mostly in the evening or in the early hours of the morning, however it makes the days hot and humid. Not to mention the MOSQUITO's!! Although we may have made some sacrifices to come here and live it is by far nothing in comparison to how these people have always been living. Everyday we appreciate what we have...even when our water tank is broken and we have to have a sponge bath...we still have so much!
This is Daniel, he is a young brother in our congregation. He was working with Gralyn in territory. This area is by the river, and because of the rain the river was very high and moving very quickly.
So as you can see we are on this side of the river but we needed to get to the houses on the other side......
So you may wonder, how do the people that live here get to there homes...
Well they have made their own bridges.....
This one is a very large log that they have cut flat on the top side, I guess this is for better balance.
You can't really tell but the river is right under the log and splashing up onto it.
But as we all stood there wondering if it was safe to travel on.......
There was Gray thinking that he could do it...but after much consultation and deliberation
it was decided that this way was just too dangerous right now. Both Gralyn and Daniel seemed disappointed, I think they equally wanted to cross that log!
You can see how quickly things can change, look at how close the river is to peoples houses. Once the real rain comes the river floods in minutes, the mountains are just behind this area and the water just flows straight down from the mountains into this valley. There are many times where this area is evacuated during the hurricane season.
We saw our first millipede today...fortunately it was dead.....It was about 4 inches long, I really hope this is the first and last I see. I only worry because it was on the sidewalk outside our
house.....GROSS!!!!
We had the group at a sisters home in San Jose. Its a small campo attached to Duverge.
This is her kitchen, the sisters name is Lourdes and she hires another sister to cook and clean her home that is who you see in this photo. And her name is Elsa.
I think the sisters here would love to use one of our kitchens back home....even for just a day.
We spent the day on Tuesday in another campo called Bytoa. This is half way between Duverge and Jimani (the Haiti border)
Chris and Jaoquin and Gralyn were working together.
We finished this whole campo in one morning!
We were announced last night as Regular Pioneers in the Duverge Congregation. So its official, we are here and this is our congregation. We are so happy to be able to work along side all this hard working brothers and sisters, who devote their life to working for Jehovah. No matter what they have they give it all!
